China approves sanctions against five US defense companies – news

China yesterday announced restrictive measures once morest five US defense companies in response to Washington’s arms sales to Taipei and US sanctions on Chinese companies and individuals.

These sanctions will freeze any property that companies have in China, in addition to prohibiting Chinese organizations and individuals from doing business with these entities, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

As empresas visadas são a BAE Systems Land and Armament, a Alliant Techsystems Operation, a AeroVironment, a ViaSat e a Data Link Solutions.

The ministry further stated that the US measures harmed China’s sovereignty and security interests, undermined peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and violated the rights and interests of Chinese companies and individuals.

“The Chinese Government remains unwavering in its determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and citizens”, the note reads.

Beijing, which claims Taiwan as part of Chinese territory, admits resorting to force if necessary and has halted high-level talks with the administration of Tsai Ing-wen, who came to power in 2016.
