China imposes sanctions on US organizations over Taiwan President’s visit

The Chinese Foreign Ministry imposed sanctions on the American Hudson Institute and the Ronald Reagan Library for violating the “one China” principle during a transit visit by Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen to the United States. About it informed Chinese Foreign Ministry press office.

China also imposed sanctions on Hudson Institution Chair Sarah May Stern and Director John Walters, former President Ronald Reagan Foundation President John Hoybush and its Executive Director Joanna Drake. They will be banned from China and their assets in the country will be frozen.

According to a press release, the Hudson Institute and the Ronald Reagan Library “provided a platform for separatist activities” by Tsai Ing-wen, which caused damage to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this holding of events with the participation of Tsai Ing-wen in these places violated the principle of “one China”.

“The US side is ignoring China’s repeated submissions and protests, insisting on obtaining permission for the ‘transits’ of Taiwan Regional Governor Tsai Ing-wen on March 29-31 and April 4-6 through the United States to attend political events,” the statement said.

On April 5, Tsai Ing-wen, while in the US in transit, met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy. The Chinese Foreign Ministry protested their conversation and promised to take retaliatory measures.
