The Foxconn factory in Chengdu, China, has resumed normal production. This site, where many iPads are manufactured, had to be temporarily closed following a heat wave. A person familiar with the matter told the Nikkei Asia that the factory had restarted last Thursday.
Specifically, the Chinese government has restored power to Foxconn. The country experienced its worst heat wave in at least 60 years this summer, lasting 70 days and breaking the temperature records of hundreds of weather stations. The authorities therefore decided to set up energy restrictions temporary for factories.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo explained that the impact for Apple would be “limited” if production resumed before August 20. However, the closure will have lasted almost a week longer: difficult in the state to predict the effects of this forced break on overall production.
If we rely on rumours, Apple would have several tablets in stock for its next Keynote. An iPad Pro M2 will be on the program, alongside a redesign of the standard iPad bringing a new design. A dedicated event should take place in the fall to present all this.
