Beijing, China (ots) – Have you ever seen an opera where the actors perform breathtaking stunts like breathing fire? How does Chengdu’s unique arts, like Sichuan Opera, become part of an international sporting event?

China has an extremely diverse opera scene, with Peking Opera being the first that springs to mind for many people. But in Chengdu, opera is presented in a slightly different way. The Sichuan Opera, created 400 years ago and representative of the fusion of different cultures from across China, can be viewed as a kind of comedy performance in which the actors double as stuntmen, performing breathtaking tricks such as fire-breathing and lightning-fast, seemingly magical mask changes.

Another distinctive feature of Chengdu culture, Sichuan embroidery is characterized by its vivid colors, over 3,000 years of history and a variety of more than 130 embroidery techniques.

In this video, American host Jack Klumpp dons an authentic opera costume and uses makeup to prepare for his debut Sichuan Opera performance. Along the way, he also experiences the amazing possibilities opened up by needle and thread while learning the art of Sichuan embroidery from a master of his craft.

How does Chengdu showcase its unique style with classical arts like opera and embroidery? How will the University Games held in Chengdu take the culture of this city to a new level?
