Taiwanese authorities said Thursday they were monitoring Chinese naval training led by the aircraft carrier Shandong which sailed up the Taiwan Strait.
The aircraft carrier entered the strait that separates the island from mainland China on Wednesday afternoon, “sailing from south to north, following the west side of the median line of the strait,” the Defense Ministry said. from Taipei.
“As of 8:00 a.m. today (01:00 a.m. in Switzerland Thursday), it continued to sail northward through the northern waters” of the island, the ministry said in a statement. The Taiwanese military is monitoring the situation, the statement added.

This latest passage of Shandong comes after China said its troops were “on a permanent high alert level” following the passage of two US and Canadian warships through the strategic waterway last week.
