In 2015, doctors from the University of Ankara (Turkey) interviewed 100 young people aged 10 to 18, asked to list the foods they considered the most “addictive”. In the lead, chocolate cited by seven out of ten participants ahead of sodas (59%), ice cream (58%) and fries (57%). In the same way as crisps, stated in one out of two cases.

For Dr. Kirrilly M. Pursey, of the University of Newcastle (Australia), the explanation lies in three words: sugars, fats and salt! She thus points to “highly processed foods”, which contain one or the other of these foods or the combination of the three.

Remember that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a daily salt intake of less than 6g, “while consumption frequently reaches and exceeds 10 g per adult”, slips the French Federation of Cardiology. And for good reason, excess salt stiffens our arteries and promotes high blood pressure, one of the main risk factors for myocardial infarction and stroke. And take note of this marker at aperitif time: a single handful of crisps or other aperitif biscuit already contains 1g of salt…
