MEXICO CITY (AP) — With a couple of goals in the first half from Erick Gutiérrez and Roberto Alvarado, Chivas came out of the slump to beat Querétaro 2-1 as visitors and stay in the direct qualifying zone for the Liguilla of the Mexican Apertura tournament.

Gutiérrez made his debut as a scorer for the “Sacred Flock” by taking advantage of a bad clearance by goalkeeper Guillermo Allison, which he sent into the nets in front of the goal at 10 minutes.

Alvarado expanded with a penalty in the 34th, after Allison knocked down Ricardo Marín in the area.

Pablo Barrera shortened the disadvantage for the local Gallos with another penalty in the 55th, after a foul committed by Raúl Martínez on Raúl Zúñiga and which was validated by video arbitration (VAR).

The victory for the rojiblancos comes after they were beaten 4-0 at home by Tigres over the weekend. The victory provisionally leaves them in 3rd position in the championship with 24 units in the actions for the 15th day of the course.

Querétaro suffered its fourth setback in the last five games to stay in 15th position with 15 points.

Chivas finished the duel with 10 players after Marín saw his second yellow card at the 83rd minute for a stomp on Mauro Lainez.

Camilo Sanvezzo was close to equalizing for Gallos at the beginning of stoppage time after a series of rebounds that impacted inside the area and barely passed one side.

In another match, Puebla won 1-0 against Toluca as a visitor.

Guillermo Martínez scored the only goal of the match with a penalty in the 78th minute.

The Red Devils were stuck in 6th position with 21 units, while the La Franja team climbed to 14th position with 16 units.

Later the development of the 15th day will continue with the duels Monterrey vs. Necaxa and León against Pumas.

This midweek day will conclude on Wednesday with the celebration of another five games.
