“Circular Economy Made Easy with Matériaux’box: The Solution for Efficient Recycling”

Double plus-value

The added value compared to the recycling containers that already exist in certain recycling centers is twofold: “This device makes it possible to reach a lot of citizens who do not yet have the reflex to go to a recycling center and who want above all to get rid of goods they no longer see the use of. The box also allows you to do everything in the same place rather than being forced to go through a recycling center“, develops Vincent Van Leynseele, in charge of the circular economy pole.

Once filled, the Material’Box is unloaded by the team of the Material library of Tournai, which depends on the ressourcerie The square. “The recovered materials, equipment and tools are sorted, possibly cleaned or reconditioned, then sold here at low prices”. explains Mathias Lefebvre, head of the Materials Library.

A proven concept

The concept has already proven itself with other types of objects, particularly household ones. “Our three recovery boxes linked to other stores in the ressourcerie are working very well. Five tons of objects per box are recovered each month and 80% of the contents find a buyer.

This is therefore a circular economy: “We have an object that was going to be thrown away, which will be resold and benefit other families because the prices are very interesting… At the same time, it will have created jobs that cannot be relocated at the resource centre. Material library)”, concludes Vincent Van Leynseele.

The deployment of Matériaux’box in the recycling parks of Wallonia Picardy will therefore make it possible to stock the shelves of the Materials Library and thus contribute to the sustainability of the activity of the resource centre.

For now, only the Tournai recyparc has a Material’Box. Ultimately, the goal is to place them in as many container parks as possible in Picardy Wallonia. And why not give ideas to other intermunicipal companies and recycling centers in Belgium.
