The government of Colombia gave the go-ahead to the implementation of the transition program’Citizen Income‘, which seeks to benefit more than 2.9 million households in extreme poverty. In this note, you will know if you access this benefit, when and how to collect it.
The Citizen Income, is a new subsidy from the Government of Colombia that seeks to benefit millions of households in extreme poverty, which consists of an income of up to $500,000 per month, directed above all to indigenous communities. It is estimated that there would be more than three million homes, divided as follows:
“More than 1.6 million are classified in the groups equivalent to a situation of extreme poverty and around 1.2 million households in moderate poverty”.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I ACCESS THE CITIZEN INCOME BONUS?
The Citizen Income 2023 from the Colombian government, a subsidy designed to benefit nearly 3 million Colombian families in extreme poverty, ensures that through this measure “Colombia can become a living power in the world.”
The beneficiaries of this subsidy are the families registered in Sisbén IV and 113,000 families from indigenous communities.
“More than 1.6 million households were classified as extremely poor and around 1.2 million as moderately poor”they said in Colombia.
To define the amounts of the transfer to households, the entity will take into account the classification given by the Sisben IV survey, family conformation, the indigenous population, victims of forced displacement (registered with Sisben IV) and the territorial location of the families.
The first payment of the program is scheduled for April 2023 and they will continue every two months, that is, it would be recorded again in June, August, October and December, and so on.
“This will allow the most vulnerable families in the country to receive income above the poverty line, sufficient to combat hunger, progressively achieve economic autonomy and access to the enjoyment of fundamental rights.”, explained the Government.
”It is a non-assistance bet on benefits for the population that needs it most and that is in a state of vulnerability and extreme poverty. The spirit of the Citizen Income is to be a system that makes it possible to dignify this type of benefits and aid, to the extent that it involves income that is above the poverty line, something that had not been done historically, since There is this transfer system in Colombia”, he explained Cielo Rusinque, the General Director of Social Prosperity (DPS).
WHAT IS THE AMOUNT ALLOCATED FOR CITIZEN INCOME?
The amount of the 2023 Citizen Income is 500,000 Colombian pesos, as indicated by the administration of the Government chaired by Gustavo Petro. For the payment of this economic subsidy, the Sibén IV must take into account the classification of the homes, the family conformation, the indigenous population, the victims of forced displacement and the territorial location of the families.
WHEN IS CITIZEN RENT PAID?
According to information from the Government of Clolombia, the first payment of Citizen Income is scheduled for the first week of April 2023, and will be made every two months, as the Solidarity Income has been paid. The next payment would be in the month of June, August and so on.
