Central Sulawesi Food Department held a cheap market in Palu, Thursday (7/3). In just one hour, residents sold all the goods they sold in the form of basic commodities.

Secretary of the Central Sulawesi Food Service, Abdulrahman Rumi, said that the cheap market was held to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1445 Hijriah.

The aim is for people to be able to shop for basic commodities with subsidies provided by the government.

“This cheap market is also part of assistance for economically weak communities,” he explained to a number of journalists after opening a cheap market for basic commodities in the courtyard of the Central Sulawesi Food Service office.

According to Abdulrahman, currently various basic necessities for residents are on the market. Therefore, by holding this cheap market, it is hoped that it can lighten the burden on the community.

“All basic commodities sold in cheap markets are below market prices. “All basic commodities receive a 30% subsidy from the government,” he said.

Abdulrahman explained that in the cheap market which was only held for one day, there were 11 partners involved, such as Bulog, Alfamidi, Hypermart, Indomaret, Anugerah Jaya Distributor and SPS Food.

“Various staples are sold, starting from rice, cooking oil, eggs, and others. It had only been open for an hour, and all the basic ingredients had been bought by the people,” he added.

One of the Palu residents, Ratna Anjani, admitted that she was helped by the cheap market at the Central Sulawesi Food Service.

According to him, all the basic ingredients sold are very affordable.

“Earlier I bought 5 kg of rice for only IDR 40 thousand. “It’s very cheap, because in the market 5 kg can reach IDR 80 thousand,” he said.

Ratna, who was late in arriving, could only buy rice. “If I could hurry up, I wanted to buy cooking oil too, but it only opened an hour ago, the cheap market immediately closed because people had run out of stock,” he said. (Z-8)
