The Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, confirmed that there is “significant progress” in the investigation into the kidnapping of former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda, but emphasized its secret nature.
“The fact that nothing is known does not mean that nothing happens,” said the Secretary of State in an interview with Channel 13, about the status of the investigation carried out by the Investigative Police and the Public Ministry.
The Secretary of State stressed that “here there is a very broad, reinforced investigative effort and that means that both the Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Police, with support from the police, with support also from the protection of the borders and with support also from what “It has been the Government’s management that this is clarified.”
“I believe that the advances are significant, but I believe that they should not be classified too much. There is progress and we must let the Prosecutor’s Office work,” she declared.
He also referred to the publication of the Venezuelan media La Razón”, an opponent of Nicolás Maduro’s regime, which raised alleged complicity on the part of Chile to allow the kidnapping of the former military man.
On this point, Tohá remarked that “the effort that Chile has made to have a collaboration with Venezuela is to persecute organized crime, not to carry out political persecutions, it’s that simple. “It is totally outside the plans of this Government, the tradition of Chile and the focus of police collaboration instruments.”
“No one has asked, no one has dared to think that Chile could be part of the persecution of political leaders who are of that nature in Chile, as was the case of Mr. Ojeda,” he noted.
Tohá emphasized that “it would be very serious” and “unprecedented” if the hypothesis of kidnapping by the Nicolás Maduro regime was confirmed.
