Vienna (OTS) Citizenship should be available to whistleblowers who fight for democracy and freedom of the press and who, as political prisoners, are and have been subjected to torture by foreign governments as a result. The torture victim has a legal right to the award if a UN Special Rapporteur confirms the existence of torture. The application for this can also be made if the torture victim is in custody in the third country.

Julian Assange is the most famous whistleblower fighting for democracy and freedom of the press. He is therefore being persecuted as a political prisoner and has been imprisoned since 2019. He is subjected to torture by the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The reason for this: he uncovered the war crimes committed by the USA in the Iraq war and published them on his Wikileaks platform.

UN Special Rapporteur Nils Melzer has confirmed the existence of torture by the UK government once morest Julian Assange.

This referendum is intended to give Julian Assange a legal right to be granted Austrian citizenship.

Signing the referendum is not only an act of humanity, but also a commitment to democracy and freedom of the press.
