Speaking to the “Peloponnisos” newspaper, the president of the Society of Achaean Studies, Vangelis Politis, underlines the urgent need to establish and operate a Museum of the City of Patras, which will aim to preserve and highlight our modern cultural heritage.
As the president notes, the operation of such a Museum can be a great plan for cultural tourism and sustainable development for the city with significant sustainability parameters, which will unlock resources apparent or latent.
“With the current data that is in our knowledge, this space could initially and directly be the complex of the Old Hospital as a wholewhere the municipal authority has foreseen the creation of an audio-visual heritage center” suggests Mr. Politis and adds:
“Primary concern at the starting point of the project the creating a digital repositoryin which everyone will rush to record what they have in order to open the way to rescue, even those whose value, for the historical course of Patras, they may not have realized”.
As for what the City Museum should include, the president of the Society for Achaean Studies explains to “P”: “To its main site, the City Museum, must include event space, educational activities, versatile exhibition hall and above all the possibility to host and exhibit the most representative samples of its units.
Indeed, the mention of its thematic units and their connection with iconic building infrastructures, spaces, districts or areaswill contribute, through a proposed network of visits-routes or the development of complex cultural actions, to their emergence, cultivating in the collective memory their forgotten characteristics and in this way creating additional motivation for their restoration or regeneration”.
Mr. Politis notes that in the first phase a committee should be set up by the municipal authority that will undertake the initial planning for the realization of the goal with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and the Region of DE.
