Clam: Ten concerts of the super class

From Lionel Richie to OneRepublic, from picture books to The Hollywood Vampires: this year’s concert season at Burg Clam shines with stars from the pop and rock scene. Now the organizers have Richard Hörmann and Michael Ehrenbrandtner presented the final program, which is presented by the OÖ Nachrichten. They introduced the tenth and final act: the Danish metal pop band Volbeat. The stage had to be specially reinforced for the band’s elaborate stage show, which recently filled the Wiener Stadthalle twice with a total of 36,000 visitors. “It will be a lesson for us,” says Michael Ehrenbrandtner. “We want to sign more bands in this league in the future.”

These are the ten concerts:

  • Lionel Richie on June 25th
  • Volbeat am June 29
  • Jack Johnson am 30. Juni
  • The Hollywood Vampires mit Hollywood-Star Johnny Depp am 1, Juli
  • Clam Rock am 7. Juli
  • OneRepublic am 8. Juli
  • Hubert von Goisern on July 28th
  • Picture book on July 29th
  • Simply Red am 30. Juli
  • Pizzera & Jaus am 5. August

The organizers want to pay special attention not only to the big names, but also to the opening acts. “Even if some bands are reluctant, we try to get supporting bands for every act,” says Michael Ehrenbrandtner. The Hot Pants Road Club will be heard before Jack Johnson, the Gipsy Kings will support Simply Red in the opening act. “Pizzera and Jaus really wanted to have support acts with women,” says Ehrenbrandtner. Among other things, Ina Regen will be heard there.

Last year, 75,000 people came to the ten concerts. “We made a turnover of five million euros, around half of which stays in the region,” says organizer Richard Hörmann. A total of 350 employees work 50,000 hours in one season. Hörmann emphasizes that he will not receive any state subsidies for this. The two organizers are already working on the concert season after next. “We want to bring fatter productions to Clam in the future,” says Hörmann. That means bands with more elaborate stage shows that were previously not possible in Clam due to the stage situation. Hörmann is even considering buying a new stage: “That would cost two million euros. Public support would be helpful.”
