Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, the piano diagonally
From Haydn to Boulez, the Frenchman has never put palisades in his garden. In concert with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, he measured himself against Beethoven.
We pick him up on the phone at the other end of Europe, in the streets of the Hungarian capital, where he will make an appearance a few hours later alongside this formidable dream machine that is the Orchester du Festival de Budapest. In these Magyar lands, the pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is a bit at home, due to his personal history – his musician wife was born there – and also due to the elective affinities he cultivated very early in his career with musicians and composers from this culture. In Geneva, after this escapade to the East, he will find a friend with the same origins, the chef Gábor Takács-Nagy. In his company, he will rub shoulders with Beethoven’s “Concerto N°2”, alongside the Geneva Chamber Orchestra. Let’s start with his reunion, then.
