After videos circulating on social media showing some of the cars being stolen in recent years, the coalition of attorneys general has now asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to make a federal recall of Hyundai and Kia models manufactured between 2011 and 2022.
Vehicle ignition keys are easily hacked, and the lack of engine mounts makes them more vulnerable to theft, the coalition said.
While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the thefts are responsible for killing at least 8 people and injuring many more.
