Cloudflare launches world’s first anonymous eSIM with built-in VPN

Cloudflare announced the launch this week Zero Trust SIM – a secure version of eSIM for iOS and Android.

It can be used alone or in conjunction with VPN Cloudflare WARP. Protection is provided “at the cellular level,” Cloudflare CTO John Graham-Cumming noted, adding that there is no analogue for such a solution. At the start, the novelty will be available in the US, and eventually in other countries.

Zero Trust SIM provides protection in depth. A VPN is one of the important components, but it does not take away the need to still run cellular on all mobile devices, and traditional VPNs like AnyConnect do nothing to prevent attackers from attacking while they are on VPN networks.

We continue to see organizations being hacked due to security issues with their applications and networks.

This eSIM will allow Cloudflare to rewrite DNS queries and use Cloudflare Gateway for DNS filtering instead. To improve the security of data transfer, it also checks every host and IP address before accessing the Internet. [TechCrunch]
