Club loses 1-2 against Anderlecht

Club Brugge lost the top match against Anderlecht 1-2. Ferran Jutglà gave Blauw-Zwart the lead after twenty minutes, but Club lost in the final phase after goals from substitutes Vazquez and Angulo.

Ronny Deila made three changes to the team that played a draw in the city derby against Cercle last week. At the back, Jorne Spileers took the place of Joel Ordóñez, while in midfield Hugo Vetlesen celebrated his comeback, to the detriment of Éder Balanta. Up front, Ferran Jutglà replaced the suspended Igor Thiago.

Club wanted to make up some of its deficit on the Brussels team and started very eagerly. Despite the ball possession for Blauw-Zwart, the first danger came from Anderlecht. Dolberg’s shot flew into the side netting from offside. The people of Bruges responded with a clever attack that ended with Vetlesen’s shot just over the intersection. Moments later, Nusa’s shot was blocked, while Skov Olsen was just unable to serve the young Norwegian. In between, a goal by Dreyer was disallowed due to Dolberg’s offside.

After an intense opening phase, it was Club Brugge that took the lead after just under twenty minutes. A deviated cross from Nusa was headed back in front of goal by Vanaken and Ferran Jutglà was able to tap in from close range to make it 1-0. Anderlecht responded with a hard shot from Stroeykens, but Mignolet made a good save. Then it was quiet for a while, but after half an hour Dolberg suddenly seemed to score the equalizer. However, the goal was disallowed due to Hazard’s hand play. Moments later, a hard shot from Jutglà went just wide and on the other side Mignolet was able to easily grab a free kick from Hazard.

After the break, both teams started again with full dedication. A Vanaken header was swept away by Sardella just before the goal line, while Hazard’s header went wide on the other side. The visitors came more and more. For example, a shot from Dolberg went over the crossbar and then an excellent save was needed from Mignolet to deflect a shot from the Danish striker out of the goal area.

Ronny Deila brought in Balanta on the hour mark to add a little more power to his midfield. There was plenty of competition, but few clear-cut opportunities. Attempts by De Cuyper, Jutglà and Vanaken yielded nothing. At Anderlecht, Luis Vazquez added an extra striker fifteen minutes before the end and that change immediately had a major impact. After a cross from Hazard, the Argentinian headed in the equalizer.

Blauw-Zwart then went in search of the winning goal, but a shot from De Cuyper was blocked, while a header from Vanaken was saved by Schmeichel. The Danish goalkeeper then also fell flat on attempts by Skov Olsen and Nusa. The match seemed to be heading for a 1-1 draw, but that was without substitute Nilson Angulo. After a cross from Dreyer, the attacker gave Club a cold shower in the end.
