Coach caught fire at Vienna’s Praterstern

The driver parked the vehicle in a parking bay and tried in vain to extinguish the fire. He may have suffered smoke inhalation. The flames were then extinguished by the Vienna professional fire department using two extinguishing lines using breathing apparatus.

Column of smoke

The driver was treated by the Vienna professional rescue service and then taken to a hospital. The fire produced enormous smoke gases that threatened to penetrate into the office building next to the bus. “The column of smoke from the burning bus was visible from afar when the alerted forces from the Vienna fire department arrived,” it said in a broadcast.

Cause still unclear

The flames were fought by firefighters using two extinguishing lines using breathing apparatus and extinguished after a short time. At the same time, firefighters checked the office building to see whether smoke had penetrated into offices – “the all-clear was quickly given here,” it was said. The wreckage of the burned-out bus was removed from the road. The cause of the fire was still unclear on Friday.
