The 13 Hours makes you discover Finland, where the cold is a real way of life. Above all, it is considered excellent for health: babies take their naps in the stroller outside, and adults bathe in the icy lakes after their day’s work.

The city of Oulu is located 150 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, in Finland. At this latitude, it’s not surprising to come across cross-country skiers. The city is famous for its cycle paths: despite the cold and the snow, cycling is sacred in this city of 200,000 inhabitants, which has proclaimed itself the world capital of snow cycling. Every morning, snowplows groom the 900 kilometers of cycle paths in the agglomeration.

The culture of cold is also learned at school. From kindergarten, the children have classes outside several times a week. We use snow to learn to write the alphabet. Newborns are also accustomed from an early age to cool temperatures, taking their naps outside, well wrapped up. With such an education, it is therefore not surprising to see that the ice baths in the city’s rivers are attracting more and more Finns.
