Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield is having quite the season as he has now reached 25 goals this season. And if there’s anyone in the right place to judge his performance, it’s prolific ex-left winger Luc Robitaille.
Robitaille has been rain or shine on the left side of the rink as he has scored 668 goals in his career. He is the 13th all-time leading scorer in the NHL.
Thus, when “Lucky Luke” speaks of the small number 22 of the CH, we listen to it with particular attention.
“Everywhere he’s gone since he was 5-6 years old, everyone said, he’s small, he won’t count and he’s going to have trouble,” Robitaille said on Friday during the show. JiC on TVA Sports. But he still does. He really is an exceptional player.
“I like watching it. We had our player, (Alex) Turcotte in Wisconsin and I was going to see him. He likes to play hockey. He always has a smile. He works after practices. He tries new things. He is always well placed. It’s rare that he misses the goal. The Montreal fans, they’re going to love him and are lucky to have him for the next 10-15 years, I hope.”
Currently, Caufield is scoring at a rate of 49 goals per season. Will he be able to cross the 50 mark this campaign?
Besides Caufield, Robitaille praised the merits of Quebecer Phillip Danault. With 33 points in 45 games, the native of Victoriaville is heading for the best season of his career.
“He’s a winner Phillip, he wants to do everything to help the team win,” Robitaille said bluntly. (…) We lost against (the Bruins of) Boston two weeks ago and it was he who played against (Patrice) Bergeron in all attendances.
“You really saw that the Bruins were trying not to play Bergeron against Phillip. This is where you see it makes a big difference. »
