In front of 49,000 spectators in the Rhein-Energie Stadium, Steffen Tigges (47th, 81st minute) and Dennis Huseinbasic (61st) ensured Cologne’s deserved victory. The goals of Florian Niederlechner (14th) and Daniel Caligiuri (68th) were not enough for Augsburg. Julian Baumgartlinger was in action for the guests from the 84th minute.

Unlike the defeat in the Conference League just three days earlier at Partizan Belgrade (0:2), the Cologne team, who played without the ÖFB legionnaires Florian Kainz (suspended) and Dejan Ljubicic (injured), offered an appealing performance.
