“It is clear that it was a massacre”: Manuel Turizo on October 12, 1492

The Monterian Manuel Turizo, who these days achieves worldwide success with his song ‘La bachata’, generated controversy among his followers after the statements he delivered to the famous program “Los 40” in Spain, which is presented by the journalist Karin Herrero.

The interpreter generated all kinds of reactions when he referred to thorny issues such as the discovery of America, bullfighting and inclusive language.

“America was not discovered, because America had been discovered many years before, but the Spaniards discovered a continent that they did not know (…) It is clear that it was a massacre, but that is how the world was before, when the strength and power of a man was governed by whoever was the most murderous (…) I have no grudge, honestly, because much of our culture is influenced by what the Spanish taught us”he said in dialogue with Herrera.

In another of the asides he referred to another controversial topic, bullfighting, of which he confessed to be an admirer.

I like the art of bullfighting, shit that they stick banderillas in them and kill them, but I really like it. Ideally, they would do the art, but the bull would not have to die. It would be brutal! (…) You should not be so radical, you can prohibit the death and mistreatment of bulls, but let art continue “said.

During the program, he was asked about inclusive language, about which he said that the fact that everyone wants to be called a certain way was respectable, but admitted that he is not used to using words like “everyone”.

Turizo also responded on the subject of San Jose Galleon, the treasure that remains at the bottom of the sea in Cartagena.

That’s from Colombia. How much gold do you have stored here that comes from our land? With all due respect, but I believe that the entire national reserve is ‘from Colombia’”.

The song “La Bachata” It has been in the top 5 most viewed video clips on YouTube for 4 months and is the third most listened to song in Spain.
