Colombia: Gustavo Petro takes first place in voting intention one week before the ballot | International

the leftist candidate Gustavo Petro He resumed this Saturday the first place of the intention to vote for the Colombian presidential elections after two weeks of technical ties in the polls with the independent populist Rodolfo Hernandezwhich he leads by 10 percentage points, according to a new survey.

In the survey, carried out by the Yanhaas firm for RCN Television, RCN Radio and the newspaper La República, Petro, from the Historical Pact coalition, has 45% of the intention to vote, compared to 35% of Hernández facing the second round of elections to be held on June 19.

Compared to the survey published last week by this same firm, Petro rose three percentage points and Hernández, who was mayor of Bucaramanga between 2016 and 2019, fell six.

On the other hand, 13% of those surveyed assured that they would vote blank, while 7% said “don’t know/doesn’t answer”.

The head of debate for the Petro campaign, Alfonso Prada, assured that this poll, “the last one before the elections”, shows that his candidate is going to win and that “change is unstoppable”.

Meanwhile, candidate Hernández criticized the pollster and said that his “seriousness and credibility” was “suspiciously demonstrated on May 29”, in the first presidential round, if what he predicted and the final results are taken into account.

“I favored Petro with 2% and I was grotesquely disadvantaged with -15.4%,” said the presidential candidate on Twitter.

This Saturday’s survey has a margin of error of 3.2% and 1,234 people from 60 municipalities were interviewed for it.

This survey is key because it is the last to come to public light, since as of Sunday the law does not allow more to be published.

It also contrasts with the results of others published in the last 48 hours, such as Invamer, made for El Espectador, Noticias Caracol and Blu Radio, in which Hernández obtained 48.2% of the voting intention, while Petro obtained 47 .2%, which sets up a technical tie.
