Starting today, the Colombian Navy joins the Combined Maritime Force (CMF) for the first time, considered the most influential in the world.

The standards of operational practices of this Colombian military force, the training of human talent, the great adaptation for interoperability and the efforts to be a vanguard navy were evaluated.

For this reason, the United States Navy was in charge of inviting Colombia to be part of this select group made up of 41 countries, whose main objective is to guarantee the security of the maritime communication lines of the world’s oceans and seas.

Particularly, this force focuses its operations in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Aden, where it combats piracy, smuggling and arms trafficking, thus allowing the free transit of maritime commerce and the protection of the maritime lines of communication in this corridor that connects the world.

Although most of its operations are carried out in this area of the world, it opens an opportunity for the Colombian Navy to lead security efforts in the seas of the American continent.

“The participation of the Colombian Navy in this Combined Maritime Force represents an important step in the shared commitment to guarantee the protection of the world’s oceans and seas. In addition, it allows it to strengthen interoperability with the navies of other member countries, exchange best practices and expand multilateral cooperation in maritime security,” the Navy said in a statement.
