Colombian singer Darío Gómez, known as “The King of Spite,” died

This Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the death of singer Darío Gómez was confirmed at the Las Américas Clinic in the city of Medellín, Colombia.

As detailed from the clinic, the death of “The King of Spite” occurred around 7:30 at night, after suffering a collapse of health at home, Blu Radio reported.

The Las Américas Clinic, in a statement, announced that Darío Gómez was admitted in a “state of unconsciousness, without vital signs, after having suffered a sudden collapse at home.”

After that admission to the Clinic of the Americas, the singer “was taken to the recovery room where advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers were performed without results.”

Through social networks, different music personalities have already fired Darío Gómez: “My heart today embraces your memory, soul mate. To King Darío Gómez, all my love, respect and admiration. Peace in your grave, King ”, wrote, for example, on his Instagram account, the also singer Luis Alberto Posada.

In addition, through his Twitter account, the governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria, described Darío Gómez as “an outstanding Antioquian who was born in San Jerónimo and became a world leader in popular music.”

“This is very sad news. This man carried the arms forward as an artist, as the great man that he was. I don’t want to believe that our idol is gone; It seems like lies to me, ”said, for his part, ‘El Charrito’ Negro.

Who was?

Darío de Jesús Gómez Zapata was one of the most outstanding artists of Colombian popular music.

He was born on February 6, 1951 in the municipality of San Jerónimo, in the west of the department of Antioquia, he was a singer and composer who, with hits like ‘Nadie Es Eterno’, ‘Sobreviviré’ and ‘Si Negabas Que Buscabas’, conquered the hearts of many Colombians and made him worthy of his nickname.

Darío Gómez began in the world of music writing verses at the age of 14, while looking for support by working as a mechanic and farmer. Some time later, he started in a group called Los Legendarios, until he managed to form his own record label.

Due to his great artistic career, ‘El rey del despecho’ sold more than six million records in the national and international markets, made dozens of world tours, and his lyrics became an infallible that gladdened the hearts of Colombians, generation after generation.

At the age of 16 when he was in school, Darío Gómez wrote his first song called “La casita Vieja”.

On the other hand, one of the most tragic moments in Gómez’s life was in 1975, when he accidentally shot his father to death.
