The air quality in Jakarta, Saturday (27/4) morning, was in the unhealthy category and occupied the 10th position as the city with the worst air in the world.

Based on data from the IQAir air quality monitoring site, on Saturday (27/4), at 07.02 WIB, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Jakarta was at 122 or in the unhealthy category with PM2.5 air pollution and a concentration value of 44 micrograms per cubic meter.

This concentration is equivalent to 8.8 times the annual air quality guideline value of the World Health Organization (WHO).

PM 2.5 are air particles smaller than 2.5 microns (micrometers).

Unhealthy category, namely the air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups because it can harm humans or sensitive animal groups or can cause damage to plants or aesthetic values ​​with a PM2.5 range of more than 100.

The medium category is air quality that has no effect on human or animal health but has an effect on sensitive plants and aesthetic value with a PM2.5 range of 51-100.

Good category, namely the level of air quality that has no effect on human or animal health and has no effect on plants, buildings or aesthetic values ​​with a PM2.5 range of 0-50.

Then, the very unhealthy category with a PM2.5 range of 200-299 or the air quality can be detrimental to the health of a number of exposed population segments.

Finally, hazardous (300-500) or generally air quality can cause serious health harm to the population.

The city with the worst air quality is first, namely Kathmandu (Nepal) at 173, second is Beijing (China) at 168, third is Baghdad (Iraq) at 166, fourth is Hanoi (Vietnam) at 160, and fifth is Medan City (Indonesia) at number 156.

Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono has issued Governor’s Decree (Kepgub) Number 593 of 2023 concerning the Air Pollution Control Task Force as a policy to speed up the handling of air pollution.

The scope of the Air Pollution Control Task Force includes preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for handling air pollution in DKI Jakarta Province, controlling air pollution from industrial activities and periodically monitoring air quality conditions, as well as the health impacts of air pollution.

Then, carry out prevention of sources of pollution, both from moving and immovable sources, including sources of disturbance and handling emergencies.

Furthermore, it is tasked with increasing open space, green buildings, and intensifying the tree planting movement as well as increasing community participation in improving air quality.

Next, carry out supervision of compliance with permits that have an impact on air pollution and take action against air pollution violations.
