“Since the age of 50, I have been screened for colorectal cancer every two years. After I retired and moved, I let four years pass and when I tested again, it came back positive. Fortunately caught early, my cancer did not require radiotherapy.”
This testimony from André, a retired doctor, was delivered within the Simone-Veil health center on Thursday February 22 during a press point organized as part of the Mars Bleu system by the Regional Coordination Center for New Aquitaine cancer screenings (CRCDC-NA).
“We are here to make people aware of their own health, because they are moving further and further away from it,” underlines Benjamin Gandouet Director General of the CRCDC-NA. “Colorectal cancer causes 17,000 deaths each year in France, although detected early, it is curable in 9 out of 10 cases.”
Also, to strengthen the prevention of this cancer, the CRCDC-NA site 64 is mobilizing alongside the pharmacists of Mourenx and the CPAM of Pau to inform and support the transition to the act of screening of Mourenxois (es) who are not screened ( e) s through personalized interviews offered in the three partner pharmacies.
92 kits already delivered
Doctor Caroline Dutoit-Cosson, coordinating doctor of CRCDC-NA 64 explained Why Mourenx: “The city has the lowest rate for colorectal cancer screening, 30% for the 2021-2022 campaign, compared to 35% for the rest of the department. To convince the 1,400 residents targeted in the Coueyto district, we trained the pharmacists who receive them in private interviews, after a call from the CPAM, to explain to them how to use the kit and especially its benefit for their health.
The first assessment is positive since out of 150 interviews, 92 test kits to do at home were delivered. The objective is to achieve a transformation rate of these kits of at least 70%. Remember that the test consists of a single small stool sample which will detect, or not, the presence of blood.
