Combatting Autumn Blues: Ways to Boost Your Mood as the Days Get Shorter

Canadians have focused a lot on “seasonal depression,” which can threaten us when the days get significantly shorter. In the absence of “depression” strictly speaking, we can be subject to a little debilitating moral collapse. Update on ways to lower its intensity.

But where did our famous potato go? You would think it died out with summer. At least we are, entering autumn, forced to summon it, when it seemed like second nature. We concentrate less well, we let ourselves be won over by sad ideas, by the annoyances of everyday life which slip by like on a duck’s feathers, we have become attentive, even too attentive and we feel irritated. Not to mention that we no longer recognize the appetite we had: either it increases, or it decreases, in any case, it works in reverse of the prosperous period. In short, all of a sudden, we don’t feel comfortable without being able to say why.

This overall decline in our mood, which we must keep an eye on, so that it does not turn into depression for good, would in fact be linked to the arrival of autumn, and would manifest itself in many ‘among us especially from October onwards, when the days become noticeably shorter. We would therefore gain in comfort if we started looking for light. While some recommend practicing light therapy, others suggest systematically getting some fresh air, even if the color of the sky is gray, it would in any case be much better than the artificial lighting in your home.

Likewise, we would be well advised to avoid compensating for our lack of enthusiasm with overly vigorous meals, which help to reduce the momentum for almost everything; or, conversely, by meals that are too light, which also contribute to reducing it. On the other hand, if thirst has ceased to plague us, we would gain in well-being by continuing to hydrate – herbal tea can replace the water we stored in the refrigerator.

Vitamin D could also help us strengthen our morale, especially when we have crossed the threshold of fifty – it is found in fatty fish, butter, etc.

However, let’s always make sure that this sudden lack of potatoes does not last. If signs of general weakness persist, you should speak to a doctor.
