“Lebanon Debate”

Today, Thursday, the Lebanese Pharmacists Syndicate and JAD organized a conference entitled “Protecting society from addiction and combating the smuggling of medicines and all psychotropic substances,” in the lecture hall of the Pharmacists Syndicate in Beirut – Nahr Corniche.

In this context, the head of the Lebanese Pharmacists Syndicate, Joe Salloum, said, “All indications indicate that what is required today is the killing and drugging of Lebanese youth, and it seems that what is required today is the head of Lebanese society, given that smuggled and counterfeit medicines are spread everywhere in Lebanon. Especially in stores and social networking sites, in addition to illegal pharmacies.”

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Salloum said, “The most dangerous of these smuggled and counterfeit medications are psychotropic medications that are spread without any control, and this has encouraged addiction.”

He stressed that “what is required today is to issue recommendations and implement them, the first of which is lifting the political cover, being strict in retaliating against any drug smuggler or drug dealer, in addition to not issuing any amnesty to any of these people, so that they can be an example to others.”

He considered that “it is unacceptable to imprison a drug dealer who killed thousands of citizens for a period of one or two years. Someone who kills an entire people is more dangerous than someone who kills an individual.”

He stressed that “the meeting was very important, especially in the presence of the Minister of Interior, Bassam Mawlawi, representing the Prime Minister, in addition to the Attorney General of Finance, Judge Ali Ibrahim, who stressed his cooperation with the Pharmacists Syndicate to combat smuggled medicines, in addition to the presence of a large number of judges, lawyers, and some representatives.” “.

Salloum touched on the words of the Minister of the Interior, Bassam Mawlawi, who stressed that the responsibility of building society is a responsibility that must be shared by everyone. He also stressed that the presence of illegal pharmacies, non-specialized people, and unrecognized certificates is a dangerous matter that harms the health of Lebanese citizens, and therefore must We must all participate to reduce this phenomenon.”

He pointed out that Mawlawi gave instructions to the security services to pursue this matter.

Salloum pointed out that “the Pharmacists Syndicate will continue to coordinate with all security agencies to reduce this dangerous phenomenon that leads to addiction.”
