Communication between official Lebanon and Hochstein… Thus came the response

There has been much talk about the file of demarcating the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel, amid information that much of what is said in the media is misplaced, especially with regard to its negative aspects.

Those familiar with the atmosphere of the negotiations on the Lebanese side are few on the official level. Like many political, economic and social issues, some seek to appear knowledgeable, with what is said inside closed rooms or over the phone between the Lebanese side and the American mediator, while the facts are different.
According to the information, the fixed issue is as follows: During his recent visit to Beirut, Hochstein heard the unanimous Lebanese position regarding the approach to the border demarcation file, and there was nothing left for discussion. He carried a clear image to Tel Aviv, where, for the Lebanese side, the ball became between him and the Israelis.
After information emerged about Israeli negativity in approaching the Lebanese position, a connection took place between Lebanon and Huxten, and the US mediator’s answer was, “If you do not inform me of anything official, then everything that is said does not go beyond media speech.”

Accordingly, the Lebanese side is awaiting the Israeli response through Hochstein within a time limit not exceeding the next two weeks. It is expected that the American diplomat will carry a proposal that he sees as close to the Lebanese proposal.
In the midst of this anticipation, the Lebanese side should not lose sight of the fact that the Israeli internal arena is witnessing political differences. Will this lead to a halt in negotiations and a regression?

The answer on the Lebanese side is no. The Israelis need to produce gas to sell to Europe, which requires agreement and stability in the region. This Israeli need gives Lebanon an opportunity to achieve the agreement from a position of strength. Therefore, this opportunity should not be missed.
