Communication services such as WhatsApp are almost widespread among adolescents and young adults. 98 percent of 16- to 24-year-olds use apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook Messenger, a survey on behalf of the Federal Network Agency shows.
Among the users of the communication services, Facebook Messenger (42 percent use) and Instagram (30 percent) rank second and third of the most used communication services behind WhatsApp, which is by far the most frequently used at 96 percent. All three leaders belong to the Facebook group.
Across all age groups, 83 percent use these or similar apps for their private communication. More than 2,200 people were interviewed for the survey at the end of 2019, i.e. before the Corona crisis.
