Community association boss Alfred Riedl, who has suspended his office until the next board meeting in March 2024 after controversial real estate transactions, is likely to be about to withdraw completely, as the Ö1-Morgenjournal reported and was also confirmed by the APA. The ÖVP politician is accused of having earned more than one million euros through property sales in Grafenwörth (Tulln district), where he is mayor. The investigation into the allegations is still ongoing.
As the Ö1 report confirmed by several executive committee members, Riedl has now signaled internally that he will no longer return to his position as municipal association president. It remains to be seen whether he will also retire as mayor of Grafenwörth.
The two vice presidents, Andrea Kaufmann and Erwin Dirnberger, said in a statement to the APA that Riedl wanted to wait for the results of the two audit procedures from the state audit office and the district administration and then explain himself. “We will take care of the organizational realignment as soon as possible – if possible this year – but at the latest with the next federal executive board.”
According to a community association spokesman, it has not yet been decided to bring the federal executive board meeting forward from the original March date. However, a lead time of two months would be necessary anyway to give the state associations time to submit their election proposals. A meeting in the fall could be tight due to the deadlines.
