Mexico City, August 22 (EFE) .- An area of ​​low pressure generated by remnants of “Grace” could cause a tropical cyclone off the coast of the state of Jalisco, reported this Sunday the National Meteorological Service of Mexico.

In a statement, the agency said that during the night of Sunday and early Monday the low pressure zone will interact with the Tropical wave number 22 and with the abundant entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean.

These conditions will lead to intense punctual rains (from 75 to 150 millimeters (mm)) in the states of Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit and Sinaloa.

The torrential rains generated by “Grace” caused the death of nine people, eight in Veracruz and one in Puebla, in addition to severe flooding and damage in the state that sits on the Gulf of Mexico.

The most serious floods occurred in the city of Xalapa, the state capital, while in the northern zone a wide swath of populations were left without electricity and cut off from communication due to the closure of highways; In addition, the fixed and mobile telephone communication was cut off.

This Sunday, thousands of people were waiting for the restoration of the electric power service, since since the early hours of Saturday about 430 thousand users were affected.

Veracruz residents, along with residents of the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, San Luis Potosí and Tlaxcala, suffer the inconvenience of living without electricity.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that after the passage of “Grace”, just over 835 thousand users in those states have been affected.

After sending workers from the Valley of Mexico to the east of the country, the CFE reported the restoration of 36 percent of the service, although Veracruz is the entity that has made the least progress in the recovery of the service with only 38 percent.

Damages in the northern part of the state range from falling trees to floods, power outages and falling electricity and telephone poles.

The authorities carried out this Sunday an evaluation of damage to communities Gutiérrez Zamora, Tecolutla, Poza Rica, Cazones and Papantla, in which cleaning and sanitation work was carried out, in addition to the removal of trees and downed posts, as well as the removal of debris from streets, roads and highways.
