Meeting in plenary, this Thursday, January 18, 2024, the national transition advisors unanimously adopted the bill creating ten Urban Communes and seven Rural Communes in the Republic of Guinea.

It was in the presence of the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Mory Condé, sponsor of this bill, and some members of the government.

The creation and erection of these new communes aims to offer a much more decentralized administration and improve local development in Guinea.
According to the report of the law commission to the CNT, presented for this purpose, the municipalities concerned by the project in greater Conakry are: Municipalities of Gbessia, Matoto and Tombolia from the former urban commune of Matoto, the communes of Ratoma, Lambanyi and Sonfonia from the former urban commune of Ratoma, the Municipalities of Dubreka and Kagbelen from the former urban commune of Dubréka, the Communes of Sanoyah and Maneah from the former rural commune of Manéah.

The report specifies that the use of the adjective old is motivated by the fact that under article 22 of the Revised Local Government Code, the modification of the name of communities or the name of a new community is decided by the law creating or modifying communities. No community should have the same name as another local authority.

Inside the country, the rural communes of the prefectures of Siguiri, Kouroussa and Gueckédou are concerned, where 7 localities have been established as rural communes.
