«Italy is experiencing the specter of fascism thanks to that mouth of Giorgia Meloni». Thus the rapper Gennarone before performing at the May Day concert in Foggia. Clear condemnation from the majority, who even denounced him for “contempt of the institutions”. The left, on the contrary, remains silent, as if nothing had happened, despite being the singer, a model for many young people and having shouted those words in front of three thousand people, who came to the Apulian town to attend the event, which is repeated every year San Felice Park. A controversy therefore erupts. His words go viral on social media and the artist himself is forced to make amends: “I apologize – he declared to the Ansa notebooks – if I have offended anyone’s sensitivity”. In the same way, however, he does not take steps back from the criticism of fascism: «What is happening in Italy seems abnormal to me, especially from a Prime Minister, who does not openly declare herself anti-fascist and passes laws that put the gag the press.” He suggests that this way of acting is almost a moral duty on the part of those who perform entertainment or, as he explains on Facebook, “an artistic provocation”.
The insults, meanwhile, do not leave the entire majority indifferent. Daria Cascarano, head of the legality and safety department of FdI in the province of Foggia, even turns to the police: «I filed a complaint as a private citizen who felt injured and in the role I occupy I feel even more the possibility of act – he explains in a video -. If the host of the evening or a representative of the city government had dissociated themselves at the time of the words spoken on stage, it is probable that I would not have presented it.” In fact, at the time, no one would have distanced themselves from what was being shouted at the top of their lungs. If some people present were shocked, there were those who, until the day after the performance, pretended that nothing had happened. For Lucio Malan, group leader of Fdi in the Senate, the secretary of the Democratic Party Schlein should have condemned him: «The painful and ambiguous apologies were based on a justification of a political nature on which a political position is needed». Despite this, apart from the numerous notes from centre-right ladies and gentlemen, there is no demonstration of solidarity from the progressives.
The only one to condemn the incident is the mayor of Foggia Maria Aida Episcolo who speaks of “the only discordant note of a beautiful party”. The clarification of the center-left tricolor band, however, in the opinion of most, would have arrived too late. «Even more shameful – underlines the group leader of Fdi in the Chamber Tommaso Foti – that some institutional officials were present to witness the ignoble performance, not only from the Municipality, from which no immediate condemnation came». As far as the union is concerned, however, the solitary thrust of the CISL does not go unnoticed. For the general secretary Luigi Sbarra it is “an unspeakable aggression, a shameful and sexist attack”.
