As a sign of honor to a scientist who honored both his role as a University Teacher and as an active citizen, we quote a final farewell as expressed by the distinguished member of our association, the retired professor of the Biology Department of the Univ. of Patras and former president of the department, Mr. Takis Katsoris, for whom he not only existed
teacher as well as fellow traveler:

“Today, Friday, March 22, 2024, a wonderful person, distinguished researcher and teacher, passed away.
George Dimitriadis. George studied in Patras, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Chemistry and his PhD in Biochemistry.

At the same time, he obtained his degree in Biology from the corresponding Department of the University of Patras. He then did postgraduate studies as a researcher in France and England, where he distinguished himself for his research work.
Returning to Greece, he first worked as a researcher at the National Research Foundation and finally was elected professor at the Biology Department of the University of Patras where he remained until his retirement.

He organized his own research group, which trained many undergraduate and postgraduate students, managed research projects, taught generations of students and held administrative positions in the Department of Biology, the University of Patras as the director of the Museum of Science and Technology, and the Ionian University as Rector.

But beyond all this, George was cultured, with deep knowledge of art, history and philology, an intelligent
a man of passion and intellectual interests. An example of a combination of scientific knowledge, activity, cultivation and humanitarianism.

For all of us who knew him as a colleague, partner and friend the loss is unbearable. My beloved George Dimitriadis, I may get used to your death, but never to your absence.

Have a nice trip.

P. Katsoris
Adjunct Professor of the Department of Biology”
