The Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba reported this Tuesday on the situation of electricity generation in the country, pointing out a slight improvement compared to Monday, March 18, but still with considerable effects.
Guiteras entrance and lower involvement
The technical director of UNE, Eng. Lázaro Guerra Hernández, accurate on Cuban TV that the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE Guiteras) synchronized the national electrical system at 3:54 PM on Monday, injecting 247 MW, which will allow a lower impact on the peak demand time of this Tuesday.
From the entity explain that the CTE Guiteras is expected to contribute around 280 MW to the country and can operate for two months before being paralyzed again to make more repairs, facing the summer, a time of greatest electricity demand in Cuba.
Fuel discharge and estimates
Guerra Hernández also reported that at this moment the ship that delivers fuel to the Mariel floating plants and the Moa site is in the process of unloading. It is estimated that for the peak demand time this Tuesday, these plants will be paying taxes to the system, which should further reduce the impact.
Impact on peak hours and comments from the population
The UNE specified that the impact on peak hours this Tuesday is forecast at 1,109 MW, a figure lower than the 1,400 MW on Monday. However, the population in different provinces has expressed their discontent on the UNE social networks, since they do not perceive a significant improvement in the blackouts.
Cubans can’t stand more blackouts
Despite the information provided by the UNE, the population continues to be dissatisfied with the persistence of the blackouts.

In Sancti Spíritus, the day the 1400 MW deficit was reached, the province had an impact of 80 MW and today, March 18, the national deficit is 1021 and taking into account the entry of Guiteras, the impact of the province to 11:00 pm is 75 MW. Could it be that they are charging us with deficits from other provinces?” they claimed on social networks.
“I don’t know about the rest of the country, but in Holguín we have not resolved anything, it cannot even be said that we are still in the same situation. Because every day there are more hours of blackout,” another person wrote.
