The National Congress must guide the regulation of Artificial Intelligence before the 2024 elections. To interlocutors, the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira, said that he intends to prioritize this agenda at the beginning of next year.
For him, the intention is to anticipate a possible resolution by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), since the body has been debating the matter to prevent the use of AI in electoral campaigns.
The main concern of the TSE and Lira itself is the use of “deep fake” in disputes for capitals and other smaller cities, since the practice can be used to harm competitive candidates.
Despite the concern of the President of the Chamber, there is still no text on the subject in the house. Globo reports that the most advanced initiative is stalled in the Federal Senate and is authored by President Rodrigo Pacheco.
The senator’s proposal provides for the creation of rules for the development and implementation of AI in Brazil, in addition to addressing issues of economic impact.
However, deputies argue that it is necessary to create specific legislation on the use of AI for political purposes, avoiding a scenario similar to what happened in the Argentine presidential election.
