ECOWAS expressed its solidarity with Guinea following the explosion at the hydrocarbon depot on the night of Sunday to Monday, December 18, 2023. This tragedy caused the death of 18 people, according to the provisional official report.
In its press release, the sub-regional body expressed “its deepest sympathies to the Government and people of the Republic of Guinea”.
Faced with the multiple damages caused by this fire, ECOWAS is appealing to member countries and the international community to provide their “support to Guinea in these difficult times”.
Already, several countries including Senegal, Mali and France have deployed rescue teams to Conakry to help extinguish the fire, but also to investigate its origin.
