Connecticut Huskies become NCAA basketball champions / Day

This was Connecticut’s fifth NCAA title, but the last time the Huskies won the championship was nine years ago.

Tristen Newton led the fourth-seeded Huskies with 19 points, while Adama Sanogo scored 17 points and was named the tournament’s most valuable player, or MVP.

“They wrote us off before the season, they wrote us off during the season – we weren’t among the seeded teams,” Huskies head coach Dan Harley said after the win.

This was the first final in the history of the San Diego team, but they failed to win the title in the first attempt. Kishad Johnson was the top scorer for “Aztecs” with 14 points.

“Huskies” also became NCAA champions in 1999, 2004, 2011 and 2014.
