A spokesperson for the photo agency explained the editor’s note in a statement to People, saying the agency was simply following protocol: “Getty Images includes a standard editor’s note for the distribution of content provided by third-party organizations.” In this case, the third parties will be the BBC Studios and Kensington Palace, which teamed up to film the royal clip at Windsor Castle on March 20.
“Of course Kate’s video was fake. Getty’s note suggests the video was not real,” wrote a user on X.
The new speculation about Kate prompted the Getty to explain the reasons behind the note in question. According to the agency, the way the video was flagged is standard practice for content delivered by third parties, in this case Kensington Palace.
The video, released on March 22, shows Kate sitting on a bench in a garden. In it, he reveals that doctors detected the presence of cancer after an abdominal surgery he underwent in January.
“This has of course come as a huge shock and William and I are doing everything we can to process and manage it privately for the sake of our young family,” she says. “We hope you will understand that as a family we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to returning when I can, but for now I must focus on a full recovery.”
