It looks strange, but based on the evidence it exists! Patras has the worst atmosphere in Greece!
IQAir’s report on air pollution gives statistics on the situation in Greece over the last five years, but also this year in -almost- real time.
According to the official figures of the Swiss air quality control organization with data from more than 30,000 monitoring stations around the world, Athens is among the top 20 cities in terms of the cleanest air!
As the data shows, Athens this year is 14th in the relevant list, with Auckland, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia occupying the first two positions.
According to the same data, theoretically this year Patras has a more polluted atmosphere, but it must be emphasized that based on IQAir’s scale, the atmosphere is judged “moderate” and not bad.
The cleanest atmosphere was measured in Chania for 2024.
Furthermore, the data show that for 2023 the most polluted atmosphere was measured in Ilion, while the cleanest was in Agios Markos, Corfu.
It should be noted, however, that the stations exist in specific regions of the country and not in every prefecture.
IQAir’s report ranks Greece 51st among the countries with the cleanest air for 2023, while Pakistan has the sad first place of most polluted air for last year.
