A video showing Namur police officers intervening in Léopold Park is causing a lot of talk on social networks. The Namur public prosecutor’s office asks that the video be interpreted with caution while waiting to completely clarify the context of this scene.
The police dog appears to bite the person apparently under arrest for very long seconds. Very quickly, on social networks, various comments spoke of “police blunders”. On the video, 4 police officers are seen surrounding a man in Léopold Park around 4:30 p.m. on September 29. An officer tries to put the person on the ground while the dog bites and literally “hangs” from the suspect’s arm. The other agent, obviously the one in charge of the dog, pulls on the leash, tries to push the suspect away by placing her hand on his face but it is difficult to judge whether it is to try to free the dog from his grip without succeeding or No. The two other officers monitor the scene, their hands on their service weapons.

Well aware of the numerous reactions aroused by the video, the Namur public prosecutor’s office reacted today by press release, calling for caution regarding the interpretation given to the facts: “It only shows part of the intervention, without taking into consideration its overall context. The judicial investigation which is underway will make it possible to determine on the one hand, the exact motives and circumstances of the police intervention, and on the other hand, whether the use of coercion was justified.“.
