Controversy Surrounding Gérard Depardieu: Rape, Assault and Misconduct Allegations

Targeted by three complaints for rape and sexual assault, Gérard Depardieu has been at the heart of a controversy since the broadcast of “Complément d’investigation” on December 7 where the star indulges in sexist, vulgar and uncomfortable behavior and words.

Patrice Leconte, who directed Gérard Depardieu in the guise of Commissioner Maigret in 2022, deplored a “killing” of the actor. “I experienced this shoot in a very idyllic way with a charming and infinitely talented man. Not a word, not a gesture is out of place, he was exemplary, he emphasizes about the film dedicated to the famous character of Georges Simenon before continuing. “The agitation is undoubtedly deserved because Depardieu is not an angel,” underlines the director who regrets having signed the column in his favor (after discovering the identity of its instigator). I am neither trying to defend him nor to overwhelm him but this killing, lynching, scares me a little.”

The filmmaker, however, draws a radical conclusion: “it has become impossible to imagine one day offering him a new role. We don’t even have to ask the question anymore… I’m not saying this in a wildly cheerful way, but I think he’ll never make films again. Alas”.
