(CNN Spanish) — Corina Yoris, the candidate for the presidency of Venezuela for the opposition Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), said this Monday that the system established by the government of Nicolás Maduro does not allow her to register, despite the fact that there are only a few hours left until the deadline for registration ends. registration of candidates for the July 28 elections.

Yoris is the candidate chosen to replace María Corina Machado in the presidential election, who was disqualified from holding public office in January and who is not allowed to compete. Machado published this Monday on her X account: “If the candidate is chosen by Maduro, they are not elections.”

“I think it is important to highlight that we have made every attempt to introduce all the cards (…) and the system is completely closed to be able to enter digitally,” said Yoris at the press conference held this Monday in Caracas. “We have exhausted all means at our disposal so that this can be resolved,” he added.

CNN has sought a reaction from Venezuela’s National Electoral Council and is still awaiting their comments.

The applicant also clarified that she is a Venezuelan citizen and that she does not have another nationality. The comment was in response to the deputy of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Iris Varela, who had suggested – without presenting evidence – in her X account that she Yoris had dual nationality: Uruguayan and Venezuelan.

“I don’t have any stains on me. I cannot be disqualified in any way. And I also want to make a very, very big emphasis. “I am Venezuelan and I was born in Caracas,” said Yoris.

The Unitary Platform has until this Monday, March 25, to register Corina Yoris, the date on which the deadline to register candidatures expires.
