In total, 1,998 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 440 patients treated in intensive care, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated Tuesday morning. Between February 27 and March 5, 2,336 new contaminations were detected on average per day, down 3% compared to the previous week.
Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, 798,008 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed.
Still between February 26 and March 5, nearly 43,400 tests on average were carried out each day. The positivity rate, ie the proportion of positive tests compared to all the screenings carried out, reached 6.1%.
The reproduction rate (Rt) of the coronavirus is set at 0.99. When it is greater than 1, it means that the transmission of the virus is progressing.
Over the same period, an average of 26.3 people died per day from the virus, bringing the toll to 22,292 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
