Mario returns to CSKA?
Looks like we’ll see official confirmation of the transfer soon. So far, only words and a lot of rumors. Which were confirmed, including the president of the club Evgeny Ginerwho answered in the affirmative to the question about the return of the Brazilian.
But the problem rests on the bureaucracy. Recall that Fernandez left CSKA in May 2022, having spent almost 10 years at the club. Then Mario said that he was tired and that he would soon have a son in Brazil, so he was suspending his career. At the same time, the contract with CSKA was not terminated – the agreement is valid until the summer of 2024.
In December, Fernandez returned to big football, signing with “Internacional” agreement until December 2023, when the season ends in the Brazilian championship. But in the new team, Mario did not work out – in April he left the club. At the same time, one clause in the agreement with Internacional, which he signed without the knowledge of CSKA, prevents his return to Russia – if his lease is interrupted ahead of time, the club must receive compensation agreed by the parties. Apparently, the Brazilian club is expecting a payment of 365 thousand euros.

“Remember that we released Mario at his request and did it absolutely free of charge. It is not entirely correct to hang such obligations on a football player in the event of a return to CSKA. Fernandez struggled for a place at the start, but in three months he played only five matches (four of them at the start), did not score scoring actions, and then suffered a hip injury. Does Fedotov need him?
Even if everything grows together and Fernandez returns to CSKA, a logical question arises: does the team really need him? Of course, Mario’s comeback is a beautiful story and a blessing for fans who have a special liking for the naturalized Brazilian. But from a purely sporting point of view, it is not clear at what level he is at all.
In September, Fernandez will turn 33. A normal age for a defender by today’s standards, but given the injuries that haunt him and the critically low game practice over the past year and a half, more and more questions arise. And it is unlikely that Internacional would have parted so easily with a football player who would seriously claim a firm place at the start.
