Should the manufacture of counterfeit Canadian currency abroad worry the authorities?

For security expert and president of SIRCO, Claude A. Sarazin, the various police forces must focus on this misdeed since too high a quantity of counterfeit currency affects a country’s economy.

However, in the case of the seizure of more than 12,000 $2 coins made in China at the beginning of the year, this is probably not a very worrying case since the number of counterfeit coins is not very large .

“What we have to question is why we produce two-dollar coins abroad because counterfeit money is an element that contributes to destabilizing a country. In this case, I do not believe that it was an action that aimed to destabilize the Canadian economy because of the amounts seized,” he says.

These coins are usually used to finance the illicit activities of criminal groups.

“Fake money will be used in the criminal world to carry out current transactions, over-the-counter purchases, consumer goods, but also to finance drug operations,” specifies the expert.
