Covid-19: in the vaccination centers of the Côte d’Azur, we are preparing for the next campaign

2023-09-20 04:50:00

While the Covid-19 vaccination campaign has been brought forward to October 2 by the government, professionals and vaccination centers are now starting to prepare.

Vaccination will mainly target the most vulnerable, such as over 65sTHE people with comorbiditiesTHE pregnant womenTHE nursing home residents or even the people living in contact with people requiring special care.

As this date approaches, what is happening in the vaccination centers in the Alpes-Maritimes?

“We never really stopped vaccinating”

Even if Covid-19 seems to some to be only a distant memory, it continues to circulate, and it is not uncommon to know people who have crossed its path this year.

While vaccination and booster shots are no longer mandatory for the majority of the population, some have continued to get booster shots.

“Since the beginning of summer and even now, we have been injecting doses into one or two people per day on average”explains one of the members of the vaccination center at the Cap3000 pharmacy in Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

“We never really stopped vaccinating,” he pointed out. “I think that the number of people coming to be vaccinated will increase slightly as October 2 approaches for the start of the vaccination campaign”.

With the most vulnerable people at the forefront, and the elderly, who are most likely to develop serious forms.

What is certain is that the centers are ready to welcome the patients targeted by the vaccination campaign and to continue administering doses.

A new vaccine in perspective

French and Europeans are also waiting for a new vaccine, which should enter the market during the month of October.

“Faced with the circulation of new variants, it is not impossible that many Riviera residents will call on vaccination centers to receive a dose of this new vaccine”specifies the Cap3000 vaccination center in Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

It is in reality an adaptation of the one designed by the Pfizer laboratory and would be effective against the XBB.1.5 sub-variant, which began circulating in Europe and France during the summer of 2023. The vaccine in question would even have been approved by the European regulator.

It should be administered in a single dose, “regardless of their vaccination history against Covid-19”as clarified by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
